Considering Non – Skid Decking For Your Boat?

boat-in-the-water

Your boat's durability and overall look will depend on the type of Non – Skid Decking you plan to install in the Cockpit Sole & Foredeck area’s.

Factors To Consider When Choosing Non – Skid Decking:

Here are some factors to consider when choosing to apply either a Non – Skid Deck Marine Coating or Manufactured SeaDek Marine Products:

· Durability of the Coating or PE/EVA Blended Foam Material

· Feel to your bare feet

· Required Maintenance after Installation

Which Materials Are Best For your Boat’s Deck Area’s?

1. Specialty Marine Paints:

There are numerous water-resistant one & two part polyurethane & acrylic marine coatings designed specifically to be used on a boat’s deck or cockpit area’s that can be mixed with Silica Sand or Rubberized particles to create a Non-Skid Finish. This type of Non – Skid finish takes several steps to complete. The area must be sanded & completely cleaned with De - Natured Alcohol. If your using a One – Part Marine Paint it’s recommended to first apply a Primer compatible with that marine top - coating.

If you elect to use a 2 – Part Marine Coating you must first sand the area thoroughly, clean with De – Natured Alcohol before applying a Epoxy Primer. The Primer once dried must once again be sanded and cleaned with De – Natured Alcohol. Once this step is completed you are ready to begin coating the area. Your first coat of a 2 – Part Acrylic Marine Coating should be applied. Typically you will have 12 – 24 hrs. before that coating becomes hard. Before that 1st coat kicks off you will want to spread whatever medium you have chosen for the non – skid. Apply that medium to the surface and then apply a second coat of paint directly over the medium within the 24 hr. timespan. Bear in mind that moisture & relative humity / ambient temperature will factor into the drying time.

2. Seadeck:
